• 841—Dublin is founded by Viking settlers of Ireland.
• 841—Battle of Fontenay-en-Puisaye fought between the two allied brothers Louis the German and Charles the Bald and their other brother the emperor Lothair I in their contention over the division of the Carolingian Empire and the title of emperor.
