3AW is a radio station in Melbourne, Australia on 693kHz AM. It began transmission on 22 February 1932 as Melbourne's fifth commercial radio station.

3AW's original broadcast frequency was 1425kHz and changed to 1280 kHz on 1 September 1935 as part of a national reshuffle of the radio broadcasting spectrum. On 23 November 1978 the station changed to 1278 kHz with the introduction of 9 kHz spacing on the AM band. Due to poor reception problems, at 7.15am. on 1 May 2006 3AW swapped with its sister station 3EE to its present frequency of 693 kHz.

The station is now broadcasting from a transmitter in Werribee and its studios have been located Bank Street, South Melbourne since 1991^[1], sharing facilities with Magic 1278. Both 3AW and Magic will move to the new Media House when it is completed.^[2] Owned and operated by Fairfax Media, the station's program format is primarily news, talk and sport.

The station is considered by some to be the most vocal conservative voice in Melbourne radio.^[3]^[4]^[5]

3AW has long been the top-rating radio station in Melbourne, although its Australian football coverage - once indomitable - has recently begun to lose its audience to the Dominant stylings of Triple M and has caused the station to fall to last in the football ratings.

In the October 2008 ratings survey, 3AW was the highest rating station in Melbourne for breakfast, mornings and evenings but Fox FM was the best rating for afternoons and drive.^[6]
