3-Hydroxyacyl CoA dehydrogenase, also known as Beta-hydroxyacyl dehydrogenase was extracted from Escherichia coli. It is a polypeptide 293 residues in length and consists of 52% alpha helices and 14% beta sheets. Its structure was determined using X-Ray Diffraction with a resolution of 2.00A. 3-Hydroxyacyl CoA dehydrogenase is classified as an oxidoreductase.It is involved in fatty acid metabolic processes. Specifically it catalyzes the third step of beta oxidation; the oxidation of L-3-hydroxyacyl CoA by NAD⁺. The reaction converts the hydroxyl group into a keto group.

The end product is 3-ketoacyl CoA.
