Pierre de Fermat proved that 26 is the only single number between a square (25 = 5²) and a cube (27 = 3³).^{[citation needed]}

A rhombicuboctahedron has twenty-six sides.

When a 3x3x3 cube is made of twenty-seven unit cubes, twenty-six of them are visible parts of the exterior layer of cubes.
