The 2010 Major League Baseball Season, the 109th consecutive season that will be played by the American and National Leagues simultaneously, is scheduled to begin on Sunday night, April 4; though not official, it has been reported that the Boston Red Sox would host their long-time rivals, the 2009 World Series champions, the New York Yankees at Fenway Park that evening. The master schedule with all scheduled games was released on September 15, 2009, with the season ending on October 3, 2010. The 2010 All-Star Game will be played on July 13 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in the California city. The game will decide home field for the 2010 World Series, which will begin (tentatively) on October 27, and end no later than November 4 if the series goes all seven games. In addition, the annual Civil Rights Game will take place on May 15 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio with the host Cincinnati Reds playing the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ricciardi was sacked on October 3, 2009 as the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays after eight seasons, while the San Diego Padres sacked Kevin Towers as their GM one day earlier after fifteen seasons with the club. The franchise moves from the Metrodome, which they shared with the Minnesota Vikings since the stadium opened in 1982 and also with University of Minnesota football program until the Gophers returned to their campus and opened TCF Bank Stadium in September 2009. The Twins last played outdoor baseball in 1981 when Metropolitan Stadium (where the Mall of America now stands) closed. In Canada, Toronto Blue Jays games will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet and TSN. RSN also holds the Canadian rights to air the Fox and ESPN/ESPN2 games if they do not conflict with Blue Jays games, as well as the All-Star Game and the entire postseason. In Australia free to air channel One HD shows up to 5 games live per week, and European channel ESPN America broadcasts games as well.
