On January 16, 2001, Michael Bowers, a semi-trailer truck driver with a criminal history, rammed his truck into the southern portico of the California State Capitol, causing his truck's fuel tank to ignite, killing the driver^[1] and causing fifteen million dollars in damage.^[2]
