The 1965 Daytona 500 was won by Fred Lorenzen driving a 1965 Ford on February 14, 1965. Lorenzen drove his number 28 to victory in t2 hours and 23 minutes after starting the race in the fourth position. There were 3 cautions flags which slowed the race for 43 laps.^[1] Lorenzen won the rain shortened event by beating second place finisher Darel Dieringer by a full lap.^[2] The win was Lorenzen's first victory of the season.^[3]
