The 1911 Giro d'Italia was the third edition of the race. Marking the 50th anniversary of the Italian unification, the race started in Rome on 15 May 1911, and finished in the same city on 6 June after 12 stages, for a total of 3,526 km. Defending champion Carlo Galetti won his second consecutive Giro, 8 points ahad of 1909 third place finisher Giovanni Rossignoli, who wore the pink jersey from stage 2 to stage 5. Lucien Petit-Breton became the first Frenchman to wear the pink jersey, on stage 10 to Bari.
