The 10th Guards Motor Rifle Division was a division of the Soviet Ground Forces. The full name of its predecessor division was the '10 Guards Rifle Pechengskij twice Red Banner, Order of Alexander Nevsky and the Red Star division.' It traces its history from the 10th Guards Rifle Division. (ex 52nd Rifle Division, first formed 1935, 26.12.1941). Fought in East Prussia, and at Berlin. In 1939 the division, as the 52nd Rifle Division, took part in the Battle of Petsamo during the Winter War and then the Soviet invasion of Poland. The division was part of the Operational Army from 26.12.1941 to 09.11.1944 and from 29.01.1945 to 09.05.1945. Before October 1944, the division has been in the Arctic, holding positions on the Zapadnaya Litsa River ('Valley of Fame')(near Murmansk(?)), as part of the 14th Army. Over the period of the defense it had about 150 fights of local importance. At the end of April 1942, it began an offensive in occupied positions, whose goals were not achieved, including in connection with severe weather conditions - on the day before 03.05.1942 was a very strong snowstorm. At the end of September and the beginning of October 1944 the division was resubordinated to 131st Rifle Corps, itself reporting to 14th Army. 07.10.1944, it participated in the Petsamo-Kirkenes Operation, advancing in the first echelon in the building on Mount Small Karikvayvish to 08.10.1944, seizing a bridgehead on the west bank of the Titovka River. Then was fighting for the Luostari, to the 14.10.1944 crossed the Pechenga River west of Kakkuri participated in the liberation of Pechenga. After the liberation of Pechenga the division attacked Kirkenes, supported by the 378th Guards Heavy Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment. After the operation it moved into reserve in the Vologda district, through Bologoye, the Baltic states, Bialystok in 'January 1945' crossed in Poland and unloaded station Ostrow-Mazowiecki. Participated in the East Pomeranian Offensive. 26.02.1945 From Baldenberg and turned to the northeast in the direction of Rummelsburg andon 3 March 1945 took Rummelsburg By'21 .03.1945 'moved to the right flank of the army at 30 kilometers south-west of Marchand, then advancing in the direction Pustkovits-Gdynia. After taking Gdynia, together with 1st Polish Tank Brigade from 31 .03.1945 attacked in the band Zagorje, east of Janowo on the peninsula formed by the Gulf Puttsger Vic and the river Rod. By the end of 14.04.1945 was concentrated in the forests of the north-east of Treptow as well and covered the coast of Baltic Sea to the right of Kohlberg and the left of Valddivinov as well. Division combed the forests, eliminated small scattered groups of enemy, the breakaway at the time of retreating to the west of large parts. In the last days of the war the division crossed the delta Oder and the Swinemunde, graduated from the fighting on the island of Usedom. With 19th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front May 1945. After World War II the division became the 10th Guards Mountain Division(?) In 1957 it became the 10th Guards Motor Rifle Division. Sometime in the postwar period it moved to Akhaltsikhe in the Georgian SSR, joining 9th Army. The division appears to have dissolved in 1991-92.
