The incident of Hauling 10 truck arms and ammunition was held at the night of 1 April 2004 at Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL), Chittagong, Bangladesh. This is the biggest smuggling of the history of Bangladesh. This is inferred that the delivery was going to United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), a militant group from Assam of India. At that period the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led 4 party alliance was in the government. High government officials and intelligences were assumed to be related to the incident. The judgment of this smuggling has not been done even after 5 years.
[edit] Early storyThe arms was likely to be bought from China North Industries Corporation (Norinco) with some fake documents. Anthony Shimrey was responsible for buying the arms being in Manila, the capital of the Philippines by means of authentic agent. The delivery was brought by a big vessel through Singapore. 2 troller boats, belonged to ULFA were used to carry the arms and ammunition to the jetty of CUFL.[1] [edit] Capturing the Arms and AmmunitionThe unloading of the arms and ammunition from boats and loading to 10 trucks was going on in presence of Paresh Baruah, the self-styled commander-in-chief of the militant group ULFA. After receiving phone call from Habilder Golam Rosul, Surgent Alauddin (officer in charge of CUFL police box at the time of incident) arrived the CUFL jetty with Surgent Helal Uddin Bhuiyan (officer in charge of Koiler Dipo pollice box at the time of incident) in civil dress around 10 pm. They asked the leader of the worker Arju alias Arju Pagla about the owner of the goods packed in boxes. Arju showed Md Hafizur Rahman and Abul Hossen, a ULFA leader. Hafizur mentioned that The arms and ammunition belongs to ULFA. The police officer made several phone calls to police & made happen to capture the supplies.[1] [edit] Confession of accusedThe two accused—Md Hafizur Rahman and Din Mohammad, accused to be related to the smugling, stated to the Metropolitan Magistrate Md Osman Gani on Monday, 2 March 2009 that the massive amount of arms and ammunition was being smuggled under the direct supervision of Ulfa leader Paresh Barua, who was residing in Bangladesh at that time. In addition, member of parliament, government officials, National Security Intelligence (NSI), Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), specially coast guard were very much aware of the supply.[2] [edit] References |
